Case Study:

Motion design system for a 150+ screen network

Role: Motion design, system management

Challenge

A 2-person motion design team needed to produce and publish content for 150+ digital signage screens across 12 countries. The existing workflow on the third-party platform required 10+ steps to publish each piece, creating bottlenecks. Content requests ranged from standard formats to complex explainer videos, each requiring custom design work.

My Approach

Restructured the network architecture on the platform, reducing publishing steps from 10 to 5 - cutting publishing time by 50%. Built tiered template system based on content complexity: pre-composed templates for standard formats (title, subtitle, paragraph, image) and flexible templates for complex requests like explainer videos. Foundation elements (color, typography) remained locked across all templates while visual element animations could adapt to content needs.

Design Solution

Colors, typography and spacing adhering to existing brand values.

Defined motion principles best suited for the types of contents that will be produced.

Designed components and templates, avoiding the need to recreate frequently used assets.

Optimized the publishing workflow, reducing the number of click required to publish a new content by 50%.

Result

The streamlined publishing workflow and template system enabled the 2-person team to efficiently manage all 150+ screens. Standard content could be produced quickly using pre-composed templates, while complex content types had the flexibility needed for richer animations without compromising brand consistency. New team members required only a brief walkthrough to start producing work.

Impact

  • 2-person team

  • 150+ screens, 12 countries

  • 50% faster publishing

  • Template tiers for content complexity
